I baked the Devil's food according to the package. You'll need two layers, mine were 9".
While those are cooling, press the package of cookie dough into the cake pan. For mine, I baked it for about 15 minutes at 350 degrees. Pop that it of the pan onto a cooling rack.
Allow all layers to cool completely. Now, from my error, put the cookie layer on the bottom.... It's the heaviest and when it freezes the hardest to cut. So you have your cookie layer, then do a layer of ice cream. I used chocolate chip cookie dough. Then I did a layer of cake followed by ice cream and the last layer of cake. I covered it in fluffy white frosting and rainbow sprinkles.
It was epic deliciousness. Luckily it's birthday cake, so calories don't count :)
On another note, the day before my birthday is kind of sad. My aunt was born on July 12th. Sadly she passed away a few years ago and now her birthday is another one of those sad reminders. I miss her terribly. It was awesome having our birthdays so close. I remember one year She was complaining about getting old, so I went and bought her a huge, and I mean huge, cow balloon that said over the hill. She laughed so hard when I brought it to her. It was one of the greatest reactions ever. I still have the birthday card from that year too. I can remember it so clearly and I am pretty sure it is my last birthday with her.
Sorry this week has been very little posting. It's been a very busy birthday week! This weekend might be a little slow too... I'm going to be camping. Oh, fingers crossed and prayers for Richard on Monday, he goes in for surgery Monday morning.
Hey everyone! So here is my new weekly installment of Pinterest Interest. It is going to take a different twist than what it did in the past. Every week I am going to pick something I have pinned (or a reader suggestion) and test it out. I am really looking forward to this and now it gives me a reason to use Pinterest more.
I am no exception to the rule about girls, chocolate, and that time of month. I woke up this morning craving it... Luckily I woke up at ten. So I booked it into the kitchen and started some brunch, but first I looked at Pinterest. I had recently found this recipe of Brownie Batter Pancakes. They look amazingly delicious. So of course, those were what I made this morning.
Ingredients: (Makes 6-8 silver-dollar pancakes)
1/4 all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp baking powder
1 T Hershey’s Special Dark cocoa or dutch cocoa (You can sub regular cocoa, which is what I did and it had less of a chocolate taste)
1 T plus 1 tsp sugar (you can use less if you’re planning to top with syrup and don’t want the actual pancakes to taste sweet.)
1/16 tsp salt
1 and 1/2 T applesauce or oil (Personally, I use 1 T oil and 1/2 T applesauce. But I don’t like fat-free pancakes.)
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
5 and 1/2 T milk of choice
After mixing all my ingredients together the batter was way too runny. Like, if I dumped any into my pan it would have went everywhere and I would have had crepes or a mess. I had to add extra flour to make mine work. I think I am going to do some more work with the recipe and hopefully perfect them for myself.
Okay, I'll admit, hers looked way better than mine and I am not quite sure how she did it. Mine were really flat but they still tasted really good. I just sprinkled them with some powdered sugar and I could have ate them all day.
I will mark these as winners and I will add them to my list of deliciousness. These would be a perfect breakfast for a special birthday morning. Or a special Monday. Or Tuesday.... Or Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.... You get the picture. These are great for anything.
Alright everyone, head into the kitchen and get cooking :) Hope you all loved my new Pinterest Interest and make sure to check back next week to see what we are reviewing!
So while perusing my kitchen the other night I really wanted a new sweet treat. And popcorn. And well I love chocolate on popcorn but I still wanted something new. This led me to searching the Internet and I found A LOT of delicious looking popcorn recipes but one kept popping up. Literally. Anyways, many of them called this poppy chow, but I a sticking with crack corn. This stuff is crazy good and so addicting. Eating just a little bit is hard, so now that you have been warned here is the recipe....
Ingredients
1/2 cup peanut butter 1/4 cup butter 1 cup chocolate chips 1/2 teaspoon vanilla 9 cups Popcorn- I used a bag of butter flavor Powdered Sugar
Mix the peanut butter, butter, chocolate chips, and vanilla in a pot. Stir constantly until melted and mixed together.
While doing that pop your bag of popcorn according to directions. Dump that into a big bowl.
Top that with your peanut butter mix and stir it all together so the popcorn gets coated completely by the mix.
Pour all of that onto a baking sheet and top with as much powdered sugar as you like.
Place in the fridge until the peanut butter mix sets, or just leave it out.
Store it in an airtight container... But let's be honest, there won't be much left :)
*FYI, this is not a recipe that I came up with on my own... It just so happens to be the recipe for Muddy Buddies or Puppy Chow, just with popcorn instead. :)Either way, it is equally delicious and I feel that everyone should know about it.
Anyways, only three tests left until this term is over and 19 days until we leave for LA/Anaheim! It is getting so close and I am getting more and more excited for sun!
Check back later this weekend for a new tutorial and lots of other fun stuff :)
Pinterest constantly takes over my life. Here are my latest Pinterest loves.
Let me warn you before you make these.... They are HIGHLY addictive. Peanut butter chocolate chip shortbread cookies. We loved them, honestly it was more like obsessed. These are melt in your mouth deliciousness.
If anyone knows me, this little quote may be the most true thing ever.
I just love everything about this onsie. It's fairly cheap, $13, but could easily be reproduced. Maybe this will be a tutorial soon.. I think baby Avery needs one :)
I love these little sock monkeys. Seriously, they are so cute. Every baby born in my family from here on out will be getting a sock monkey. Totally fun and cute. I'll be doing my tutorial on this soon with a video.
For some reason, I love this whole room. Every single thing about it is amazing. I need to find some time to do interior decorating.
These little shells are delicious. It's like hamburger helper on crack. Taco seasoned ground beef, taco sauce, salsa, shells, and cheese... Lots of cheese. Let's just say these are keepers.
So there you have it, my addiction to Pinterest :)
Hey guys, it's been awhile, I know. I feel like life has been hectic but it really hasn't.
School has been going pretty well. It's week three of classes and some of my classes are starting to have midterms. I hate it. Especially since they give two midterms. That makes no sense to me. You can only be in the middle of the term once.
The last couple weeks my back has been really bothering me. Friday it was so bad Richard had to take me to urgent care to get something... Anything. They ended up putting me on muscle relaxers and Percocet as needed. Let's just say I spent the whole weekend in a stupor of drugs. Then on Monday I went in to see a doctor again for a follow up and he said it was muscle spasms from my back muscles being too tight. Awesome. Muscle relaxers, stretching, limited activity, physical therapy, chiropractor, massage... Those were all his recommendations. I'm still on the drugs and I'm trying the stretching because I really don't want to spend money on physical therapy.
I've been working really hard on my YouTube channel so make sure you all check it out and follow me. As soon as I get 100 subscribers I get a keyboard for my iPad. Once I get 1000 subscribers I get a new camera... I've got my eye on a pretty little Nikon. :) my husband is awesome for making me that deal, so you all need to help me out and subscribe!!! Please :) I've been trying to get a lot of videos up on there and will probably have a couple more this week. Lots of tutorials, some vlogs, basically just stuff I like. So check it out... For real.
So I am pretty sure that our lawn was not mowed since like last summer. It is so stinking long. We moved in to this place in late December and it has just gotten worse. I lose Coco when she is out there. It's sad. I might break down and do it today.... Maybe. I really want to make our yard look nice and that will be one of my blogs/vlogs soon. Plus one of storage for craft items.
I've been trying out these new nail stickers and I'm surprisingly happy with them. I have gotten so sick of doing my nails and then the next day them chipping. The price is a little spendy on these things, I think like $7 for the box of them which is about 24 stickers. They come in a lot of different colors and styles. Best part is, they come off really easily. So far I've only tried the Kiss brand, but I think I will try another brand next time just for fun.
Since Easter is coming up I have been all about dying eggs. The only real problem with that is we don't eat a lot of eggs. After doing some Internet research I found ideas for different things to do with eggs. One of the coolest things I found was blown eggs. Below you'll find my tutorial for Silk Dyed Blown Easter Eggs.
Materials:
Dozen eggs
Vinegar
Silk ties- they must be 100% silk
Cotton squares
Baby snot sucker- its there a real name for these things?
Scissors
Push pin, screw, paper clip
Small rubber bands
Pot to boil the eggs in
Egg Blowing:
This is going to get rid of everything inside the egg so we just have a shell. If you want, you can skip this part and move to the silk dying so that you have hard boiled eggs.
Start by poking a hole into both ends of the egg with a push pin. Then, choose one side of the egg to make the hole bigger. Do this by gently using the screw. Once you have a larger hole unfold your paper clip. Insert this into the larger hole and move it around. Basically, you want the inside to be scrambled as best as possible so that it easily comes out of the shell.
Next, use the baby snot sucker to blow air through the smaller hole. This should make the egg insides come out the other end. If you want, blow the egg into a bowl so that you can use the egg for other purposes. Make sure everything comes out of the eggs. I usually run a little water through the egg as well just to clean it out some more.
Silk Dying:
First is to take the tie apart. It needs to be deconstructed so that you are left with a flat piece of silk that can be cut into smaller pieces. Begin by cutting off all tags on the scarf. Then, cut up the back middle seam. Remove the inside lining From the tie. Cut the tie into pieces that will fit around your eggs. I did six of each color since I had two ties.
Place the tie face up, the color side needs to be facing the egg shell. That will be the design that is on the egg. Try to get the silk as close and cleanly pressed onto the side of the egg that will be showing as possible. Wrap this all with a cotton piece and then close with a rubber band.
When you have the eggs wrapped up put them in the pot with about 1/4 cup of vinegar and water so that they will be covered. If you blew the eggs out they will float so you will have to be creative and figure out a way to keep them submerged. One way is to use a strainer turned upside down on them or even use some smaller lids to hold them down; it doesn't matter how you do it along as they stay under water.
Let those boil for about 15-20 minutes, or longer if you are doing hard boiled eggs. I recommend doing about 3-4 eggs at a time since the cloth takes up extra space in the pot. After they have boiled place them in a strainer in the sink. Allow the eggs to cool before you cut the rubber band and remove the silk and cotton.
When you take the silk and cotton off you will be left with some very petty eggs. The silk can be used again to dye more eggs. You will find through doing this more that some ties make really pretty eggs and some do not transfer as well. It's really just a hit or miss kind of thing but I have found the uglier tied make better eggs.
Ideas For Use:
I filled some eggs with melted chocolate for my neices and nephews for Easter. I also used some in a vase with some Easter grass. Another idea is to use some for a Easter wreath. Basically, just be creative and have fun :)
Below is my first YouTube tutorial. I'm still getting the hang of it, but I hope you enjoy. Check out my YouTube channel for more video tutorials weekly and subscribe to me there.
Catchy title right? Richard thought of it himself :) anyways, I haven't done one in awhile so I figured it was time to do a Pinterest piece. I haven't spent much time on there lately, but I have found some really good stuff. So let me share and remember, you can follow me on Pinterest too.
First off is this adorable lamp. I am assuming you can buy it somewhere, but soon I will do a tutorial on how to make one. It's just really cute and would fit perfect in my bedroom.
Dinner tonight was this simple, yet really good baked chicken fajita recipie. Preheat oven to 350, and put all your ingredients into a glass baking dish. Bake about 25-30 minutes or until the chicken is cooked thoroughly. I used green, red, and yellow peppers; mushrooms; and onion. Then I used one of the cheap fajita seasoning mixes and threw in some garlic. Mix it up really well so everything is coated. Yum.
I am pretty sure I have every ticket stub from everything Richard and I have ever done. Some are in my wallet, some in our bedroom, and even some in the car. This is a really simple way to store them and display them. Plus, it's a great way to display the great memories you have together. Just make a opening in the top so ticket stubs can just be slid in.
I am a sucker for all things Harry Potter. I have to admit, this is the best costume I have ever seen. In fact, I am almost certain that this will be my dogs costume for Halloween.
I love this mobile. It is so cute and could really easily be recreated. Maybe it will be an upcoming tutorial? I will just have to get the kinks worked out so I can make that happen.
Ah yes, cupcakes for two. Now I no longer have to make a full batch of cupcakes when I really just want one.
Mix together:
1 egg white
2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons melted butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 cup flour
1/4 heaped teaspoon baking powder
pinch of salt
1-1/2 tablespoons milk
Bake at 350 for about 20 minutes. Frost as you would like :)
So there you have it. Those have to be my favorite finds on Pinterest as of right now. There is plenty on there to keep you busy for now :)
I know I said there would be a new tutorial up today, but we took forever making the video so it will hopefully be up tomorrow.
Happy April Fools day, let me hear about some pranks that were pulled because I didn't do any:(
They call for cooking, snuggling with the puppy and a little crafting (and homework if you've got it). So today, I made us some crockpot lasagna and Texas toast. The lasagna turned out perfect, it's the recipe from my Pinterest faves. The Texas toast, well let's just say I burned the first batch I made.
For my little crafting I made a headband from some leftover pieces from the rug I made this weekend.
Super cute right? All you need to do is cut three strips of shirt and pull them tight so they start to curl. Then start braiding... Braid until its a little smaller than your head and sew the ends together securely. It should stretch so you can fit it around your head. Voila, you now have a super cute, custom headband. I think I am going to make it in a couple more colors :)
Coco has been super cuddly today which is awesome. She laid with me while I did my Linguistics extra credit. Our professor said since our class as a whole did bad on the last test she was giving us all extra credit. It's really sad, but really nice of her. I didn't fail the test but it was definitely not my best work and I kind of have an excuse since I missed a whole week for the honeymoon. Other than that, it's dead week and next week is finals... Then SPRING BREAK!!! Let's just hope it stops raining here or I really do get to go somewhere warm and sunny for break.
Oh, so some awesome news. Richard sent his resume (that I wrote) to Makers Studio, which is a YouTube studio. They are hiring some interns so he thought he'd give it a try. Well, they emailed him back this morning and they have been talking a bit I guess. So hopefully that will take off for him!
I think that is all the exciting news from the Little household on this rainy Monday. Hope everyone had a great weekend and is looking forward to an awesome week.
As I've stated before, I love love love Pinterest and you should all follow me. But there is a point to this blog today. I am going to post my favorite Pinterest finds from the last week.
Let's start with fashion. The pink blazer and white dress are absolutely adorable. If anyone finds that blazer, let me know. Everything about that picture makes me happy and want to wear it.
Next up is food :) I love all the recipes you can find on here. There are some that are so amazing, like this one for lasagna. For real though, how amazingly good does that look? My least favorite part of lasagna is all the time that gets out into making it... It's made in the crockpot so it's super easy, that is what makes it perfect. Who knew cooking could be so simple all the time?
Now, I'll admit, I love cooking but my all time favorite section on my Pinterest boards is Time to get Crafty. I find so many super cool things to make on there that there is honestly not enough time in the day for it all. Here are a couple of my favorite ideas (both can be found on the page that I linked to above, plus so much more)
So that adorable little wall art is made out of toilet paper rolls... Ya you heard it, TOILET PAPER ROLLS!!!! All you do is cut them up and glue em together. Then paint it a pretty color and hang it up. So awesome.
And let's be honest, who wouldn't want their washing machine to be cute like that. Now, I haven't done this myself but I think one day I might.
I love Harry Potter!! I hope that is clear by my Harry board. This is my favorite find this week. Isn't it a cute pillow! Who wouldn't want to curl up with that and watch a movie?
