Happy holidays everyone! I just love this time of year. Today I spent all day baking two types of cookies and two types of donuts. Yum right?
Baked Cake Donuts
2 cups cake flour, sifted
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup buttermilk
2 large eggs, lightly beaten
2 tablespoons butter, melted
Bake at 425 for 7-8 minutes
Pure deliciousness. I covered some in powdered sugar and some in a glaze. I mixed 2 cups powdered sugar with 1/4 milk and vanilla in a pan on warm. Then dipped the donuts in and covered them in sprinkles.
That's my new favorite holiday picture. It's just missing one of our cats, but the fact that I got Coco to participate and Opie to look so cute makes it good enough for me.
This week has been absolutely insane! Let me give you the weekly breakdown.
Monday was the hubby's surgery. He didn't get anything done that will help heal his shoulder, but now we know what is wrong. His doctor used a camera and inserted it in the front of his shoulder and then into the back of his shoulder. Basically, his humeral head is non-existent now. It can be from a few things, but most likely from not moving it. His body stopped sending blood to that part of the bone because it wasn't being used and the bone died and was absorbed. So his shoulder joint is just cartilage. Now, you may be asking, what is the course of treatment? Well, after my brief discussion with his doctor after the surgery he told me three options. Obviously the first is a joint replacement. He can also drill holes into the bone to get blood back into the humeral head and hopefully the bone will regrow. The last is a joint replacement, but using a donor humeral head from a cadaver. As of right now I have no clue which way this is going to go. We meet with his doctor on August 1st, so we will know then and hopefully begin scheduling his next surgeries.
An hour after we got home from the hospital with Richard I was at the vet. For some reason we may never know, Coco had a seizure. That was one of the scariest things I have ever experienced. My poor puppy was so scared. We ended up watching her over night and giving her muscle relaxers. The next day she was so much better. Hopefully that never happens again.
The rest of the week was uneventful compared to Monday, but let's just say I am glad it's over. Last night/this morning, the hubby and I went to see The Dark Night Rises. Three hours later, it was really good. I enjoyed it a lot, but I won't say too much because I hate when people ruin movies for me. Just go see it.
My heart thoroughly goes out to the families affected by the Dark Knight Rises shooting in Aurora, CO. It is so sad that someone could be so messed up that they begin a shooting at a movie premiere, seemingly at random. Everyone is in my prayers, including the shooter and his family. I hope that everyone can find peace at this time of tragedy.
So there you have it, a quick rundown of the important highlights from my week. :)
My birthday is all over :( It was good though. Richard got me a new pair of hot pink Toms. And I had my epic birthday cake. Plus, he woke me up with my birthday crown and a bowl of ice cream for breakfast.... And he didn't wake me up until 10am. How sweet of him right?
Coco had her first camping trip this weekend. She did really well.... Until it got cold or rainy, which was often since it was at the coast. Last night she was curled up in a wool blanket next to the fire. It was adorable. I wish I would have gotten pictures of it. She slept in my sleeping bag with me and did really well staying between my legs and feet. Except at one point last night I woke up and I couldn't find her... She had moved from between my legs to laying right next to me and on the ground... It was really weird. I am just glad she didn't try to escape!
Tomorrow is the big day... Richard is finally having his shoulder surgery. Surprisingly I am really nervous. I know it's shoulder surgery, but it's still scary. I know everything will be fine.... Except my four to six hours I will be sitting up at the VA hospital by myself waiting. Maybe I will ride the tram down and walk around downtown Portland. As long as its a nice day. But back to Richard. He is scared. I know it. But after tomorrow it will be a start to recovery, finally. Something to thoroughly look forward to.
I am going to push my Pinterest Interest for this week back to Tuesday so I can concentrate on my husband tomorrow.... Hope you all understand :) let me know if anyone has any suggestions for things they want to see on Pinterest Interest. I mean, I have a lot of things to go through, but I really want to do things that my readers will enjoy.
Saturday my big sister Megan, her husband Sam, and their kids Lexie (2) and Avery (6months) are coming to visit. Megan and I had some crafting to do so to keep Lex entertained I made a few things.
First off was this cute little guy. I made him from leftover plastic Easter eggs. It was raly simple. Basically, I threaded some yarn through the eggs. I made sure that the bottom of each egg was resting inside the top half of the egg. At the end, I put the whole egg on there and glued it shut. Put some googly eyes on there and a felt tongue and you have a snake. Another idea is to throw some beads or something in the end before you glue it closed so that it makes a rattle snake.
Then, I made some play-doh. Follow my recipie below and you will never buy store bought play-doh ever again. Seriously, this stuff is the best.
In a pot pour all your ingredients:
1 cup flour
1cup water
1/4 cup salt
1 tbs oil
2 tsp cream of tartar
Food coloring- I love the neon colors, or even kool-aid powder will work
Place the pot over medium heat and stir, stir, stir.
The mix will go from watery to play-doh pretty quickly and once it looks like the picture to the right it's done. You should be able to scoop it all out at once.
Now comes my favorite part. Divide the batch into two parts.
Add a few drops of food coloring to each half and knead it in.
Once you're done with that you have the best play-doh ever. I repeated this process so I had four colors, but you could just double the recipie in the first place and then divide it into four parts.
So Lexie didn't last long, but her sleeping is still really cute. And Coco decided to cuddle up with her.
Now, this is the actual project Megan and I did. She had a lot of baby food containers that needed to be turned into storage containers.
First start by removing any labels and cleaning them up.
Next, take the lids and paint them with chalkboard paint. We tried to do a yellow around the rim and just the chalkboard on top, but it did not look good so we painted it all the black.
To make the jars look cuter I hot glued a little lace ribbon around the jar. This also helped to cover up the glue from the label that didn't come off and also any printing that was on the jar. Personally, I think they turned out really cute, but I may be biased :)

Hey guys, it's been awhile, I know. I feel like life has been hectic but it really hasn't.
School has been going pretty well. It's week three of classes and some of my classes are starting to have midterms. I hate it. Especially since they give two midterms. That makes no sense to me. You can only be in the middle of the term once.
The last couple weeks my back has been really bothering me. Friday it was so bad Richard had to take me to urgent care to get something... Anything. They ended up putting me on muscle relaxers and Percocet as needed. Let's just say I spent the whole weekend in a stupor of drugs. Then on Monday I went in to see a doctor again for a follow up and he said it was muscle spasms from my back muscles being too tight. Awesome. Muscle relaxers, stretching, limited activity, physical therapy, chiropractor, massage... Those were all his recommendations. I'm still on the drugs and I'm trying the stretching because I really don't want to spend money on physical therapy.
I've been working really hard on my YouTube channel so make sure you all check it out and follow me. As soon as I get 100 subscribers I get a keyboard for my iPad. Once I get 1000 subscribers I get a new camera... I've got my eye on a pretty little Nikon. :) my husband is awesome for making me that deal, so you all need to help me out and subscribe!!! Please :) I've been trying to get a lot of videos up on there and will probably have a couple more this week. Lots of tutorials, some vlogs, basically just stuff I like. So check it out... For real.
So I am pretty sure that our lawn was not mowed since like last summer. It is so stinking long. We moved in to this place in late December and it has just gotten worse. I lose Coco when she is out there. It's sad. I might break down and do it today.... Maybe. I really want to make our yard look nice and that will be one of my blogs/vlogs soon. Plus one of storage for craft items.
I've been trying out these new nail stickers and I'm surprisingly happy with them. I have gotten so sick of doing my nails and then the next day them chipping. The price is a little spendy on these things, I think like $7 for the box of them which is about 24 stickers. They come in a lot of different colors and styles. Best part is, they come off really easily. So far I've only tried the Kiss brand, but I think I will try another brand next time just for fun.
The last week has been a little hectic. So it's time for a....
Richard had an AMAZING time at PlayList Live. He met up with a lot of really cool YouTubers and made some awesome business connections for himself. His viewers have grown drastically and well, things are just really looking up on that right now. One of his videos is below, check out his channel... You know you want to and well, I want you to as well.
Next, we will talk about my past week... So on Friday I had my last final and I have to say I am surprised I got a high C on the test, which means I passed the class :) yay me. Also on Friday I had a day with my nephews, Nolan and Jake.
They were super adorable. We went and got some ice cream at the mall and then came back to play in the sunshine with Coco... They all got a little worn out and we ended up inside watching Pokemon, Ninjago and I think some other shows. Here's Coco sleeping with her owl after the boys wore her out. She did surprisingly well with them, but she still gets over excited easily and a little cranky.
Then, Coco and I took of for my parents house for the night. This was her first time using her new bag instead of the kennel and well, she was quite entertaining.
She would press her nose up against the mesh so she could sleep and ended up looking like this. I carefully snapped a picture while driving because this was just too funny.
I was kind of nervous about her with all the dogs because my parents have eight of them.... She was one of the pack by the time we left.
While staying at my parents I spent some time with my sister Megan, her husband Sam and their adorable kids Lexie and Avery. It's always good to see them even if Lex can be a little brat. But, she actually was nice this weekend, gave me kisses and everything. Below is Avery in his super cute sunglasses getting ready to go out shopping with us. He is just a little chunky stud and I love him. I will admit, by the time I left there, my arms felt like they had been given a workout from holding him.
Also went to Sweet Tomatoes with my parents and then to see The Hunger Games. I loved it. Loved, loved, loved it. It was amazing. I am only disappointed they didn't spend so much time on the relationship development but seeing the game makers perspective was kind of cool. It is crazy to me how movies are made from books. I guess I just find it interesting the details I think are important compared to what the producer thinks is important. They did an awesome job casting it. I'll be honest, I liked it so much that I went to see it again when Richard got home :) he liked it as well and the second time I was able to actually watch the movie without thinking about all the things they changed from the book.
Then, on Monday I decided to go get a tattoo. I have a slight obsession with them. This is one I have wanted for awhile and means many things to me. "By your side I'll stay forever", my parents, my husband, my siblings, everyone in my life that is important to me fit with this tattoo. I've had a lot of people flake out on me and this is just a reminder of all the ones who have stayed by me through everything.
My other three all have meaning as well. On my ankle I have the Christian fish. One shoulder says beautiful mess in French. The other shoulder has a bird feather with six birds coming out of it, one for each sibling. I've gotten a new tattoo every year since I was 19. They all mean something important to me and I think I only have a few more I want, but I really don't know yet.
My final weekend activity was making some silk dyed chocolate filled blown eggs. Yeah, the name in itself is a mouthful. They are going to be Easter presents for my nieces and nephews. What kid doesn't love chocolate?
I'll get the tutorial up soon, and am also working on making a YouTube channel so I can put it on there... But the minimal directions are this.
First you need to blow out the eggs, ie get rid of the actual egg so all you have is the shell. Then boil that in vinegar water to clean it out a little. I also baked mine to help clean them even more. Then wrap them in silk and cotton and boil them in vinegar and water again. Fill them with chocolate or even just use them as decorations, but there you have them. Again, I'll do a full tutorial later .
Anyways, I think that is the full update for now. Oh wait, tomorrow we have another roommate moving in, so things might be a little hectic again, I'll let you know next update. Remember, check out Richards YouTubechannel... And subscribe to him. :) and watch this collaboration video he got to do.
They call for cooking, snuggling with the puppy and a little crafting (and homework if you've got it). So today, I made us some crockpot lasagna and Texas toast. The lasagna turned out perfect, it's the recipe from my Pinterest faves. The Texas toast, well let's just say I burned the first batch I made.
For my little crafting I made a headband from some leftover pieces from the rug I made this weekend.
Super cute right? All you need to do is cut three strips of shirt and pull them tight so they start to curl. Then start braiding... Braid until its a little smaller than your head and sew the ends together securely. It should stretch so you can fit it around your head. Voila, you now have a super cute, custom headband. I think I am going to make it in a couple more colors :)
Coco has been super cuddly today which is awesome. She laid with me while I did my Linguistics extra credit. Our professor said since our class as a whole did bad on the last test she was giving us all extra credit. It's really sad, but really nice of her. I didn't fail the test but it was definitely not my best work and I kind of have an excuse since I missed a whole week for the honeymoon. Other than that, it's dead week and next week is finals... Then SPRING BREAK!!! Let's just hope it stops raining here or I really do get to go somewhere warm and sunny for break.
Oh, so some awesome news. Richard sent his resume (that I wrote) to Makers Studio, which is a YouTube studio. They are hiring some interns so he thought he'd give it a try. Well, they emailed him back this morning and they have been talking a bit I guess. So hopefully that will take off for him!

As I've stated before, I love love love Pinterest and you should all follow me. But there is a point to this blog today. I am going to post my favorite Pinterest finds from the last week.
Let's start with fashion. The pink blazer and white dress are absolutely adorable. If anyone finds that blazer, let me know. Everything about that picture makes me happy and want to wear it.
Next up is food :) I love all the recipes you can find on here. There are some that are so amazing, like this one for lasagna. For real though, how amazingly good does that look? My least favorite part of lasagna is all the time that gets out into making it... It's made in the crockpot so it's super easy, that is what makes it perfect. Who knew cooking could be so simple all the time?
Now, I'll admit, I love cooking but my all time favorite section on my Pinterest boards is Time to get Crafty. I find so many super cool things to make on there that there is honestly not enough time in the day for it all. Here are a couple of my favorite ideas (both can be found on the page that I linked to above, plus so much more)
So that adorable little wall art is made out of toilet paper rolls... Ya you heard it, TOILET PAPER ROLLS!!!! All you do is cut them up and glue em together. Then paint it a pretty color and hang it up. So awesome.
And let's be honest, who wouldn't want their washing machine to be cute like that. Now, I haven't done this myself but I think one day I might.
I love Harry Potter!! I hope that is clear by my Harry board. This is my favorite find this week. Isn't it a cute pillow! Who wouldn't want to curl up with that and watch a movie?
